GAY PEOPLE'S CHRONICLE #C-5
March, fair, and banquet to mark Kentucky Pride
by David Williams
Louisville's 13th annual March for Justice will be returning to its roots June 19 as marchers converge on the Jefferson County Courthouse for a rally and speeches to urge passage of a fairness ordinance in Jefferson County.
Last year the march began at the Urban County Government Center on Barret St. and proceeded down Bardstown Rd. to the site of the Pride Fair. This year, the march is being held one week earlier than that event, however.
The afternoon begins at noon at the new Waterfront Park, at Brook and Witherspoon, with a rally to celebrate local victories to date, including passage of a fairness ordinance in Louisville. Music will be provided by the Denis Ervin Band with a special performance by Yer Girlfriend. Several speakers will also address the crowd. Food will also be provided.
About 2 pm, marchers will move into the street for a brief walk to the courthouse at 6th and Jefferson.
For more information on how you can participate, call the Fairness Campaign at 502-893-0788.
Pride Fair in Louisville
Community Health Trust's ninth annual Pride Fair will be held from noon to 7 pm on Sat., June 26 at Willow Park in Louisville's beautiful Cherokee Triangle. This festive event will be the site of arts and crafts booths, a hands-on art activity area, community agency booths, food and beverage vendors, and a variety of performance groups.
Entertainment will be provided by the Doug Johns Group, Juggling by the Supremes, and St. John's Wort. There will also be a raffle for several fabulous prizes, including round trip tickets for two to Chicago from Blue Planet Travel; University of Kentucky and University of Louisville signed basketballs, and much more. The event, sponsored in part by Bud
Light, is designed to increase community awareness in the battle with AIDS, and to provide an opportunity to celebrate diversity and raise money for Community Health Trust in its continuing mission of providing direct services to those in need.

Renna to keynote banquet
Lexington's annual Volunteer Awards Banquet will be held this year on Sun., June 27 at Ed and Fred's Desert Moon. Price of admission has been lowered to $20 to make the event accessible to a greater number of individuals.
The keynote speaker is Cathy Renna, director of community relations for the National Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), who will share her experiences as a nine-year volunteer and employee of the organization.
One new innovation in this year's banquet is the diversity of awards that is expected. GLSO, the group organizing the event, has stopped purchasing awards and instead is urging each group presenting an award to choose and purchase an award it feels most appropriate to them. The awards could range anywhere from gift certificates to rubyencrusted tiaras.
"Our community is imaginative and at times even outlandish, so we believe this will add some spice to the dinner," the group's newsletter notes.
The Wasson Award, given annually to the most outstanding volunteer of the year, is named for Lexingtonian Jeff Wasson, who successfully fought Kentucky's sodomy law. Nominees for the Rainbow Award include the Lexington Men's Chorus, Lexington Fairness, and Moveable Feast. For more information, call Mary at 606-266-5904.
